Fish carry origin of human hips

The evolutionary steps from the hips of our fish ancestors to the weight-bearing hips of humans are not as complex as previously thought.

A study by Monash University, in conjunction with Macquarie and Uppsala Universities, studied the hip bone structure of the Australian lung fish and the Mexican walking fish.

The research found that most of the elements needed for the transition to human hips were already present.
