Younger people are increasingly being diagnosed with dementia and memory disorders, a study has found.
Initial findings have established that as many as one in 750 Australians may be affected. Previously published international data estimated the number at one in 1,000 people.
Early onset dementia is defined as dementia with symptom onset before the age of 65 years.
These findings indicate a greater need for services geared towards earlier-onset dementia cases. Existing services, geared towards older people, may not meet their needs.
