Old oil rigs, new reefs

Researchers have found that sinking old oil rigs in the deep sea, in conjunction with the establishment of marine protected areas, may offer a means of conserving deep-sea communities. The rigs would be turned into artificial reefs, not just providing habitat, but also saving massive quantities of emissions otherwise created in decommissioning and removing them.
