Solar winds linked to lightning strikes

Energetic particles from the sun may contribute to the frequency and volume of lightning strikes, researchers from the University of Reading have found.

The study found an increase in lightning rates after the arrival of high speed solar winds.

Solar winds can be tracked from space, which may aid weather forecasters in predicting the severity of weather events.
