Southern Australia about due for a volcanic eruption

Western Victoria and South Australia are overdue for a volcanic eruption, according to researchers from the University of Melbourne.

The research calculated the ages of small volcanoes in the regions, and found that while they don’t erupt regularly, the average gap between volcanic eruptions was 2,000 years.

However, it has been 5,000 years since the last eruption in the area.
