The rate of hospitalisations from sport has remained steady in spite of increased research into injury prevention.
A report using injury admissions data from hospitals found two-thirds of hospital admissions were sport related.
Australian football was found to have the most hospital admissions, followed by hockey. Racquet sports accounted for the lowest.
The findings indicate that there needs to be more done in injury prevention, particular to the knee and lower leg.
