Stronger antibiotics could reduce pneumonia mortality

Respiratory specialists have recommended the early use of more potent antibiotics for the treatment of a virulent strain of pneumonia. After reviewing 16 cases, clinicians found that a multi-drug resistant strain of pneumonia was becoming prevalent and had caused deaths within 72 hours in three of the cases. They concluded that the degree of morbidity may be due to the increase in the number of cases as well as the delay in providing stronger treatment.
