When I was growing up we had bands like the Manic St. Preachers who were intellectual, political (with degrees) and basically had something to say and deep convictions about politics, culture, society etc. A generation of people got engaged and educated because of them. Today no one has anything to say in music. Youth and music are a marriage so if students are apathetic and dont care or have little passion then I wonder if it is because of the music.

Simple and reductionist I know, but you see my point.

      And yet Occupy Wall Street.

Not terribly nuanced in itself I know, but it was mass activism.
