Scientists are steps closer to uncovering the cause of multiple organ failure in trauma victims after identifying the four major predictors for the condition.

After examining accident victims, scientists pinpointed the severity of an injury, blood loss, genetics and the “second hit” from treatment as major influencers in organ failure.

This finding could help scientists determine the exact cause of organ failure: the leading killer of accident victims in their first days of treatment.
