An international research team has discovered a new material, superdense aluminium, which has never before been seen on Earth.
The material can only exist under extreme pressure, similar to the conditions found in the planet’s core. By simulating these high-pressure environments in the lab, researchers were able to create the superdense aluminium which is around 40% stronger and denser than its conventional counterpart.
The develop of superdense aluminium could lead to the development of other superdense materials – such as superdense silver or gold – which could have a range of applications.
