The ocean moves in mysterious ways

The ocean does not just circulate clockwise and anti-clockwise as is traditionally though, but flows east-west in bands through the open waters of the southeast Indian Ocean. The previously unknown circulation patterns were discovered by researchers from the University of Melbourne.

The findings could have important implications for our understanding of ocean events, from the movements of marine life to predictions of weather and climate.
