The rat race: pitting native rats against introduced vermin

A new trial starting this week will take place in 16 bushland locations in NSW with the aim of reintroducing a native rat species and potentially reducing pest black rat populations.

The native bush rats, called boguls, will have to compete for territory and resources and they will be microchipped and radio tracked to monitor their movements of the next 18 months.
