Watching sport can get your heart racing, literally

Couch potatoes rejoice: appreciating sport from the couch can increase activity in the sympathetic nervous system.

Researchers from the University of Western Sydney showed people footage filmed from the perspective of somebody running and observed increases in heart rates, respiration and skin blood flow.

While this means vocal chords aren’t the only body parts to get a workout when watching sport, researchers warn the couch should not replace actual exercise.
