The genome of the Asiatic pear has been accurately sequenced to within 3% of its complete assembly.
Sometimes referred to as the “apple” pear because of its round shape, the Asiatic pear is native to China, the country that accounts for almost 60% of the world’s pear production.
Ultimately, understanding the genetic make-up of the pear will help to improve its quality as well as its resistance to disease.
