Bee brains to reveal secrets of schizophrenia

Monitoring the brain of the humble honeybee could help improve our understanding of mental disorders such as schizophrenia and autism.

By observing a series of molecular changes within the brains of bees, researchers were able to see how bees respond to and process various pieces of sensory information.

These observations have important parallels with human brains that will help to improve our understanding of both healthy brains and the brains of people with mental disorders.
