Biowire technology brings stem cells to life in human heart

Researchers from the University of Toronto have designed a new way to mature heart cells, which do not usually reproduce in large numbers.

The team created a biowire, where they applied electrical pulse cycles to mimic the elevated heart rate of fetal humans and encourage natural growth of the heart cells.

The stem cells responded by increasing in size, connecting and beating like real heart tissue.
