Cicada wings that kill bacteria

Cicada wings have been discovered to be the first natural surface to kill bacteria through their structure.

Researches at James Cook University discovered this as part of an international collaborative team looking in to the nanostructure of insect wings.

Greater understanding of natural bacteria killing surfaces may be a useful alternative to manage the growing resistance to antibiotics.
