Community council update

Last week we floated the idea of a “community council” to help us moderate the site. You seemed to like the idea. Here’s a brief update.

We’re moving forward with the idea. I’ve spent the last few days researching what other sites are doing with their moderation to ensure “best practice” and the integrity of what we’re doing – we’re looking at what forums, news platforms, dating sites and more are doing in the area, from the perspective of both the site’s owners and users.

On top of that, we’ve been looking at getting our authors involved – a couple per section. We think getting academics to add their expertise to moderation could be a great way to grow the community (and help us out with our more problematic subject areas).

This community group is an important step for The Conversation’s community. We want to get it right.

Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be developing the guidelines necessary to recruit and steer our new moderators. In the meantime, send through your expressions of interest.

We’ll be in touch.

Cory Zanoni, community manager
