New mums are excessively sleepy

A study has found one in two mothers are excessively tired four months after giving birth.

University of Queensland researchers followed 33 healthy mothers and recorded their sleep patterns. The mothers used “sleep-wake” diaries to report on their daytime sleepiness following the birth of their child in week six, 12 and 18.

The results have implications for not only mothers returning to work but also policy makers who are developing regulations for parental leave entitlements.
