Our brains divide and conquer new environments

A brain imaging study conducted by researchers from the University of Queensland has shown how human brains use a “divide and conquer” technique to learn to navigate through new environments.

The study found that two areas of the brain analyse the environment separately, with one coding the size of the area and the other coding its complexity.

The research could shed light on how to help people with spatial memory impairments.
