Scientists have discovered the elixir to the world’s most renown mountains’ exceedingly long health: landslides and erosion.

Landslides both protect the river beds from further erosion and deliver abrasive agents to the streams, speeding up the erosion process.

The American Appalachians have lasted several hundred million years as tectonic plate activity lessens.
