Lecturer in Law, Keele University

Dr Abigail Pearson is a Lecturer in Law at Keele University in Staffordshire. She was inspired to study and research in the areas of law and disability after reflecting on her own experiences of the barriers she faced when accessing society as a life long wheelchair user, living with Cerebral Palsy. Her 2019 doctoral thesis focused on mainstreaming disability into liberal legal education as means of increasing awareness of the rights of people with disabilities, both within the legal establishment and society generally. It applied her original concept of Assurance of Rightful Access, as a potential remedy to the limitations of the existing concept of Reasonable Adjustments in Equality Law. Her Masters Dissertation in 2015, applied the concept to the realm of access to public transport as a human right for people with disabilities. Abi chooses to use person first language when discussing disability.
