Having studied web design and computer science at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, Adam describes himself as a game designer who wants to make the world a better place. Through practice-based research, he researches, designs and creates an array of serious games for educational and activist purposes to bring light to a variety of "wicked problems" in society. Having taught while completing his Masters in Multimedia in South Africa, he is currently lecturing Computer Game Technology at the University of Portsmouth while undertaking his PhD.

With a particular interest in pervasive games, a type of game played in real-life, Adam is intrigued about how games can break out of their “magic circles” to truly affect the lives of their players. He is also interested in the importance of values in games, and the use of specific values in game design. To this end, he is currently developing a pervasive game based on wellbeing and the COVID-19 pandemic.
