Associate Professor of Information and Media Studies, Western University

Dr. Ajit Pyati is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at Western University. He has a BA in Environmental Sciences from UC Berkeley, a Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from UCLA, and a PhD in Information Studies from UCLA as well. A unifying theme in his research and publications over the years has been social justice in the information society. In addition, he has extensive fieldwork and area expertise in India.

Recently, Dr. Pyati has become more interested in contemplative studies, particularly the roles of contemplative experience in both higher education pedagogy and in relation to social justice in wider society. On a related note, he is a trained yoga and meditation teacher, with several years of experience teaching these contemplative practices to students, faculty, and staff at Western. Based on his contributions to student well-being, he was one of the inaugural winners of the Western Wellness Award of Recognition in October 2017.
