Akanni Ibukun Akinyemi

Professor of Demography and Social Statistics., Obafemi Awolowo University

Akanni Akinyemi is a Professor of Demography and Social Statistics. He is the Executive Director of the University Central Office of Research and former Director of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (2016-2018), and Head, Demography and Social Statistics (2015-2016).
He is the 2022 recipient of the Bixby International Leadership Fellowship with Guttmacher Institute, U.S.A
He has conducted research on Migration in Africa, Ageing and Population and Reproductive Health dynamics. He has led many national and regional migration research and programs in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and The Gambia.
He was a Takemi Fellow at Chan School of Public Health, Harvard University (2018-2019);
Gate’s Visiting Scholar at Johns Hopkins University, U.S.A (2004, 2007, 2010), Post-doctoral fellow at the African Centre for Migration Studies, University of Witwatersrand (2011-2012), African Population and Health Research Centre, Nairobi (APHRC, 2010), Rostock Demographic Centre (2005) etc. He has served at different capacity including COUNTDOWN Global Technical Working Group (UNFPA, New York) on Child and Maternal Health, Distinguished Speaker at the 3rd Annual Population Lecture (2014), EU DG Home Special Committee on Smuggling in Persons in Africa (2017-2018), African Partner Worldwide University Network (WUN), University of Bristol.
