Albertus J. Smit

Associate Professor, Marine Biology, University of the Western Cape

I am a marine scientist with primary background in phycology (the study of algae). My current interest is within the field of nearshore oceanography, wherein I couple the study of the thermal variability of the marine environment (and specifically climate change) to the ecological processes operating along our coast. Although I work along the entire South African coastline, a focus close to home is the kelp beds of the Western Cape Province.
