PhD Candidate, Gender Sexuality and Women's Studies, Western University

Andrea Burke is a PhD student at Western University in London, Canada (Treaty 6 Territory) studying Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies. Her current doctoral work concerns racialized and immigrant women engaged in essential work during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also engaged in scholarship on decent work, sex work, violence prevention, international development, gender theory, girlhood, public policy, and social equity.
Andrea also engages in crisis intervention, gender based violence prevention, and prevention training through Anova and the Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women and Children. Past youth work, engagement with the girls and women in her life, and university-level teaching keeps her inspired and in awe of what people are capable of, and ultimately pushes her to be a better scholar.
