Professor of the History of Linguistics, University of Sheffield

After studying English and Linguistics at Cambridge University I have for the past fourteen years worked at the University of Sheffield. I am currently Professor in the School of English and have previously worked as the faculty director of research and as a head of department. En route I have spent time working in Norway, France and Sweden. My current research involves projects and publications on the changing status of English in Europe, language policy-making, the experiences of Nordic emigrants, and the history of applied linguistics.
