Author of Unwilling Executioner: Crime Fiction and the State (OUP, 2016) and a series of detective novels set in nineteenth-century Britain and Ireland (all published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson).

My research and teaching interests lie mainly in the areas of transnational crime fiction, spy/espionage fiction and contemporary fiction that examines security and policing issues.
