Anna Geurts took an interdisciplinary degree at the liberal arts and science college of Utrecht University and studied at the University of Exeter before specialising in modern European history at the University of Oxford, where she obtained her MPhil and DPhil degrees.
She recently conducted a combined research project at the Universities of Oxford and Twente, investigating the experiences of travellers in Europe in relation to their personal use of space. Since becoming affiliated with the University of Sheffield she has continued work on the theme of space in the long nineteenth century, next to that of perceptions of time. The influence of social position (class, gender, race, sexuality...) plays a central role in all of her work.
