Anna-Sophie Maass

My research is at the intersection of European Studies and International Relations. I conduct research on EU-Russian diplomatic relations, EU foreign policy towards the post-Soviet space, in particular Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine. My research interest is also on Russian politics since the end of the 1990s.

I am part of a research consortium funded by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST): https://foreignpolicynewrealities.eu/ which assesses the EU's perception as an actor in international politics.

Experts in consultancies for public and economic policy and I have been invited by the European Commission to examine EU external Macro-financial instruments. My research focuses on assessing the effectiveness and the EU's added value of these instruments.

Prior to working at Lancaster University, I was a Lecturer in European Politics and Society at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. In this role, I convened and taught courses on European integration, European Politics as well as EU foreign policy towards its neighbourhood at undergraduate level.I also acquired postgraduate teaching experience in European Studies at the College of Europe, Natolin, Warsaw where I taught introductory modules on Political Science and European Studies and co-convened a Masters theses colloquium for students in the major "The EU as a Global Actor."
