Professor Anthony Cahalan has been the Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus since the beginning of 2013.

He was previously Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Charles Sturt University in New South Wales, Australia and prior to this was Dean of the Faculty of Design at OCAD University in Toronto, Canada. Earlier roles included Deputy Head of the Division of Health, Design and Science and Deputy Head of the School of Design and Architecture at the University of Canberra, Australia, as well as Head of Graphic Design at the University of Tasmania.

Professor Cahalan has 30 years of professional experience in the fields of higher education, graphic design, marketing and public relations. He has worked for national and international clients in the private, intergovernmental and non-profit sectors and has multicultural perspectives through living and working in the USA, Austria, Canada, Australia and Malaysia.

Professor Cahalan’s research interest and expertise is in the broad area of visual communication, particularly contemporary typography. He has been the country delegate for Australia of Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI), and has been a state president and national councillor of the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA).

He holds a PhD from Curtin University in Australia, a Master of Design from the University of Technology Sydney and a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Communication) from Sydney College of the Arts.
