Anthony Deloge Ariyanayagam

Lecturer and Research Fellow, Queensland University of Technology

Anthony is a Lecturer and DECRA Fellow in School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. His research focuses on Structural Fire Engineering and addresses the Fire Resistant and Lightweight Wall Systems using innovative stud sections and cement blocks, enhanced gypsum plasterboards and insulations with a view of improving the Fire Resistance Rating of wall systems.

His research interests are; Real building fire performances of Wall Panels, Bushfire performance of Structural Members, Fire safety of Cold-formed Steel Wall Panels, Thermal Properties of Wall Linings (Gypsum Plasterboard, Calcium Silicate Board and Magnesium Oxide Board) and Insulation Materials, Structural and Thermal Finite Element Modelling of Structural Members under Fire Conditions, Structural behaviour of Cold-formed Steel Members.

Anthony's current project on Fire Resistant and Lightweight Wall Systems using Innovative Blocks, aims to develop fire safe building solutions with lightweight wall block and enhanced fire resistance characteristics for use in wall systems in the emerging mid-rise cold-formed steel buildings and in bushfire safe rooms. It will use material and thermal characterization studies, thermal and structural numerical models and fire tests of wall panels and compartment. This project will generate new knowledge on lightweight blocks and fire safety.

Anthony is part of a productive research team “Wind and Fire Engineering Lab” at QUT (https://research.qut.edu.au/wafel/), led by Professor Mahen Mahendran, which includes 12 Higher Degree Research Students (PhDs and Masters).
