My research focuses on topics of political media, conservative news, journalism history, and digital propaganda. My book -- Making the News Popular: Mobilizing U.S. News Audiences (University of Illinois Press, 2016) -- explores American journalism's turn away from a high modern philosophy of professionalism toward an attempt to set news values in response to consumer demand. With AJ Bauer, I co-edited -- News on the Right:Studying Conservative News Cultures (Oxford University Press, 2019) -- which offers an introduction an interdisciplinary approach to studying US conservative news.
