Antony Kalashnikov

DPhil candidate in History, University of Oxford

I am a doctoral candidate in History at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. My principal interest is in memory politics in the post-Soviet space. Specifically, my research explores the self-representations of Stalinist officials and events in the post-war era. I focus particularly on the 'memory hardware' which Stalinist leaders dedicated to themselves, hoping to influence the way the Stalin period would be remembered by posterity. Such 'memory hardware' included memorial plaques, monuments, sculptures, and public art installations, many of which remains in the post-Soviet urban fabric.
