My main research interests lie in the areas of Political Economy and Long-Run Economic Growth and I am more than happy to supervise PhD students with an interest in these fields. Topics which I find interesting include:

- Infectious Diseases, Individual Behavior, Family/Household Choices, and Development
- Slavery and Disenfranchisement in the US
- Institutions and Economics Growth
- Origins and Persistence of Organized Crime (mainly Mafia in Italy and the US)
- Ethnicity, State Fragility, and Development in Africa
