Arie Ruhyanto is a lecturer in the Department of Politics and Government of Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Currently, he is undertaking a doctoral research at Birmingham University, UK. His research focuses on statebuilding through territorial reform in West Papua.

Prior to his doctoral study, Arie was a researcher in the Working Group on Papua at Gadjah Mada University where he was involved in various research projects during 2008-2015. His interest in Papua encouraged him to participate in many forums on Papua. With other students, he initiated the Papuan Study Circle in the UK which has conducted three annual seminars gathering speakers from Indonesia and the UK.
