Benjamin Wachira

Assistant Professor, Aga Khan University Hospital

In my current role, I am the lead Emergency Physician at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi where I am responsible for Strategic Management and Clinical Governance of, and Continuous Quality Improvement in, Emergency Care in the hospital; I am also involved in various efforts to develop Emergency Care in Kenya through education and research.

I supervise and teach residents from various departments rotating in the Accident & Emergency Department. Specifically I am involved in the teaching, supervision and examination of Family Medicine residents. I am an American Heart Association faculty member and have instructed in more than twenty Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses both in Kenya and other African countries. I have successfully implemented and continue to oversee the Continuing Medical Education programme for my department, for doctors and nurses. I have developed and implemented the current Diploma in Primary Emergency Care training programme locally in collaboration with the College of Emergency Medicine of South Africa. I developed the curriculum, materials, exam and digital training material for the Point of Care Ultrasound training for rural facilities in KenyaIn addition, I am responsible for the Aga Khan University Hospital, Clinical Skills Lab which provides emergency skills training.
