Birri O’Dea is a Kungalu and Birri-Gubba (Wiri) woman, whose work is focused on improving outcomes for pregnant urban Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Her current PhD research, being undertaken through the Molly Wardaguga Research Centre at Charles Darwin University, explores how an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-specific maternity service could potentially help reduce statutory child removals at birth. Birri has a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and wrote her thesis on cultural safety in maternity care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in an urban setting.
