Boleslaw Szymanski

Professor of Computer Science, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Dr. Boleslaw Szymanski is the Claire and Roland Schmitt Distinguished Professor and the Director of the Social and Cognitive Networks Academic Research Center of the Network Science Collaborative Technology Alliance. He received Ph.D. in Computer Science at National Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland, in 1976. He wrote over four hundred scientific articles and edited several books. He is a foreign member of the National Academy of Science in Poland, IEEE Fellow and the honorary Professor of Engineering in Poland. He received the RPI Wiley Distinguished Faculty Award in 2003 and the Wilkes Medal of British Computer Society in 2009. His research focuses on social and computer networks. He also contributed to parallel and distributed processing, inventing so called Szymanski Mutual Algorithm.
