Senior Lecturer in Film Studies, University of Dundee

Brian Hoyle is a Senior Lecturer in Film Studies (and occasionally English Literature) at the University of Dundee. He is a specialist in British Film and Art Cinema who has published widely. He has written a monograph on the films of John Boorman (Scarecrow, 2012) and has a co-edited collection on British Art Cinema coming out in 2018 from Manchester University Press, which partly grew out of his PhD.

He has written on the work of Derek Jarman, Sally Potter, Peter Greenaway and Ken Russell, as well as American filmmakers like Orson Welles, Joseph H. Lewis and Fred Zinnemann. He has also contributed full-length commentaries to the BFI Blu Ray of Ken Russell's films Dante's Inferno and Always on Sunday and an extended interview with Bill Forsyth on the Powerhouse Blu Ray of Housekeeping. He is currently researching a monograph on Russell for MUP.
