Busisiwe Shezi is a Specialist Scientist under the persistent and toxic substance research programme of the Environment & Health Research Unit. Dr. Busisiwe Shezi is also an honorary lecturer at the Discipline of Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She has a PhD in Occupational and Environmental Health (University of Kwa Zulu Natal). Her research focus is mainly on exposure to toxic pollutants and associated adverse health outcomes, including birth outcomes and respiratory diseases. More recently she has been shifting her attention to the way in which exposure to toxic pollutants is detrimental to personal psychosocial outcomes, and injurious to society at large. This realization has been the trigger for her passion and commitment to research, and a determination to generate the evidence needed to bring about change in South Africa.
