I am currently investigating the genomics of two evolutionary innovations: venom, and viviparity (live birth/pregnancy). Both of these dramatic adaptive traits are encoded by many genes, which I investigate using state-of-the-art transcriptome sequencing techniques. As well as providing information of broad evolutionary significance, my work sheds light on the fundamental biology of unique Australian fauna, including seahorses, platypuses, marsupials, and live-bearing lizards.
