Carl Strathearn

I am a PhD student and Asst. Lecturer at Staffordshire University. My current research is concerned with establishing a new evaluation methodology called the Multimodal Turing Test as a standardised framework of analysing the perceptual authenticity of humanoid robots and measuring their progress towards higher modes of human emulation.

This research includes the development and creation of two realistic humanoid robots with Embodied Artificial Intelligence (EAI), voice processing, facial recognition, tracking and a unique Electro Active Polymer (EAP) dilating eye system.

This work contributes to establishing EAI as a scientific field and exploring new modes of social AI such as Interpersonal Artificial Intelligence (IAI) to make robots appear more human.
