In my research I seek to understand the interplay between children's social and cognitive development. My main research interests deal, for example, with how and when children acquire and at the same time become vulnerable to the negative effects of societal stereotypes attached to their social groups, such as gender stereotypes about maths and science, or stereotypes about obesity. Relatedly, I am also interested in how affective factors, such as maths anxiety, and number-related activities in the family environment (home numeracy) influence the acquisition of mathematical skills and the development of positive attitudes toward maths from the earliest school years. Finally, I am conducting research on the consequences of sexual objectification of girls and women from childhood through adulthood.
