I have a longstanding research interest in mobilisation by social movement actors, including legal mobilisation and protest. Much of my recent work in this area has focused on climate change litigation and the proactive use of the courts by the climate movement. However, I have also written on reactive use of the courts by environmental activists, including in both civil SLAPP suits (https://centaur.reading.ac.uk/44535/) and in criminal prosecutions. The current piece is very much in the latter vein, with an eye on how the movement can seek to turn legal threats into opportunities.
