Christi van der Westhuizen

Associate Professor, Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy (CANRAD), Nelson Mandela University

Prof Christi van der Westhuizen (D.Phil.) is Associate Professor at the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy (CANRAD) at Nelson Mandela University.

She is the co-editor of the Routledge International Handbook of Critical Studies in Whiteness (2022), and author of 'Sitting Pretty: White Afrikaans Women in Postapartheid South Africa' (2017), 'White Power & the Rise and Fall of the National Party' (2007), 'Working Democracy: Perspectives on South Africa's Parliament at 20 Years' (2014) and several articles and book chapters in both academic and popular media.

After holding research associateships with the universities of Cape Town, Free State and KwaZulu Natal, she worked as an associate professor at the University of Pretoria.

She started her working life as a journalist at the anti-apartheid newspaper 'Vrye Weekblad' and is a regular commentator in the South African and international media.
