Honorary Research Fellow in History, La Trobe University

I am an Honorary Research Fellow in History at La Trobe University in Bundoora, Melbourne. My research area is the history of psychoanalysis and the mind in the Oceania region. I blog at www.freudinoceania.com

My thesis, completed in 2008, is entitled Á Missionary in the Family: George and Jennie Smith and Aboriginal Missions, New South Wales 1890-1920. This follows the lives and careers of two working missionaries who worked in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland during a period of tumultuous change in government policies concerning Aboriginal people. This thesis recovers the story of the Aborigines Inland Mission and the Singleton Aborigines Children's Home and the relationships between missionaries, aboriginal people and government.

I am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers; the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists Asasociation of Australia, the Victorian Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists and the Australian Association of Social Workers.
