Christophe Premat

My expertise spans diverse domains, encompassing discourse analysis, French postmodern thought, and cultural studies, particularly within French-speaking regions, with a focus on contemporary francophone literature. I am deeply engaged in exploring the global dissemination of French Theory, utilizing postmodern and postcolonial theories to dissect the circulation of myths.
I have been studying political discourses in French-speaking countries, especially the ones provided on identity politics. I co-edited a book in 2023 on "The New Challenges of Populist Discourses in Romance Speaking Countries" where we compared the expressions of "populism" in Romance countries. As a result, we highlighted the rebel strategies of populist leaders presenting a way of being disloyal to existing institutions. I am currently working on a project related to "French populisms" where I analyze the new "populist" voices in the Francophone world. I plan to focus on new Panafricanist discourses in the French-speaking world with an attention paid on actors, arenas and scenes.

One of my other related research areas is Canadian Studies. As the leader of the Centre for Canadian Studies since 2017, my emphasis extends to Canadian politics where I analyse the political discourses on the relation between Canada and Quebec.
