Research Director, Strathmore University

Claire Adionyi is a Research Director at Strathmore Law School and a PhD candidate at the Institute for International & Comparative Law in Africa (ICLA), University of Pretoria. She is also an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She holds an LL.M in International Human Rights Law from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands.

Claire has an interest in international criminal justice and serves as the academic lead for the International Criminal Justice LL.M at Strathmore Law School. She also has a keen interest in international human rights and its interplay with criminal justice in the context of the rapidly changing global order where the digital revolution and the rise of artificial intelligence will shape the future. She has also conducted research and prosecutor training on wildlife and human trafficking, and the right to health.

Claire has participated in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Education for Justice International Expert Group on Teaching Wildlife, Forest and Fisheries Crime. She was also lead researcher for the publication of a database titled “Who is Who: Organisation’s dealing with Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Eastern & Southern Africa” that is a comprehensive resource tool of stakeholders in Eastern & Southern Africa, in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the International Nuremberg Principles Academy.

Claire is a Visiting Scholar at Symbiosis Law School in Pune, India under the aegis of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS) and she has previously worked as an Associate Advocate at Meritad Law Africa Advocates, a Programme Associate at the Kenya Human Rights Commission and a Research Assistant at the Global Health Law Research Centre in the Netherlands.
